Alliance Aurora Breast MRI Scanner
March 2010 – The first ever Alliance Aurora breast mri scanner has hit the newest metropolitan areas. It is the only breast mri dedicated scanner on the market. You may see a large tractor-trailer rig with a huge pink ribbon on it that says Aurora or Alliance Imaging on the side of the trailer. These eight mobile rigs contain the newest in MRI technology regarding high quality and consistent imaging practices for breast MRI.
Like most types of radiology exams, there are high quality standards which are met by most sites, but not by all. If you have a breast MRI on one of these Alliance Aurora breast MRI scanners, you will get one of the highest quality dynamic breast MRI exams that are available to patients.
The images are designed to be integrated with the accuracy of 3D post processing and read by expert breast radiologists. The breast radiologists who read these exams are very specialized, much like neuro-radiologists who read the brain, and orthopedic radiologists who are specialized to read images of your joints.
The Alliance Aurora breast mri scanner is designed to ONLY perform high resolution dynamic breast mri exams. It cannot do any other type of exam, which means that the protocols are designed to be highly consistent, always providing high image quality and ease of use for the technologists to operate.
The slice thicknesses range from 0.7mm to 1.4mm depending upon the patient, as each exam is tailored to every patient based on personal history, implants, and more. There are hundreds and sometimes thousands of images taken in dynamic form one after another during a contrast injection, so a dynamic histology curve can be calculated which tells the radiologist what kind of tissue the exam is indicating.
Why is this important?
See the article we have shared with on what can go wrong with this critical exam.

Hello Elena,
Find a radiology center that will work with you on the payments, and after you do, let your referring physician know.
Ask what their “cash price” is for the MRI, and negotiate it down. Many managers at smaller centers have this within their control. Keep in mind, outpatient centers are almost always cheaper than what hospitals charge.
While Radiology is a business, there are many kind people within the industry who have family members affected by breast disease and are willing to work with you. Best of luck….and see if any on the list to the right may help.
