Ann Jillian creating change in breast diagnosis for over twenty years.
The only exam federally mandated with strict passing criteria is the mammogram.
We can thank celebrity actress Ann Gillian, who had a bad experience with poor quality mammography, when her breast cancer was missed due to poor mammography image quality. The more she learned about her disease, the limitations of diagnosis, the possibilities that can go awry during mammography, the more she discovered the difference in good and bad quality imaging, and that it can make or break the care a woman receives based on detection.
She became proactive in demanding higher quality mammography imaging standards, petitioned her government representatives and spoke in front of the United States Congress which helped initiate the strict criteria mandates required for breast mammography. Thanks to Ann Jillian, if the mammography site does not pass the strict quality control criteria, they are not able to get accreditation and bill for the exam. So you may understand why we say actress Ann Jillian creating change in breast diagnosis has made a critical difference in mammography in the United States.
This is not the current situation with breast MRI. There are no federally mandated standards for doing breast MRI accurately or correctly, which in turn allow or disallow reimbursement from Medicare and insurance companies.
Ann Jillian, is a strong beautiful woman who has made a positive change in imaging standards, and we believe, her involvement has saved the lives of thousands and thousands of women through quality mammography standards. She is an Emmy award winning actress, who has been sharing her story through motivational speaking, and the image above was borrowed from her website,WHICH CAN BE SEEN HERE.
Women still look up to Ann as an inspirational model who became stronger through her breast cancer event, and survived to thrive.
While breast MRI has saved many lives due to the procedure at many centers, there are some facilities that have no idea how to set up the protocol parameters for the exam, schedule the time-line for the exam around a woman’s menstrual cycle, prep for or even accurately interpret the results. The radiology centers that are dedicated to women’s health, are usually focused on the best quality level of care.
We encourage you to ask the questions of your MRI center to evaluate if they are on top of the MRI breast imaging game. You often have to become the advocate for yourself of the best care you can receive.
Ann Jillian creating change in breast diagnosis for over twenty years has been a credit to mankind.
